Book Baby To Make Print Distribution to Retailers Accessible to Indies

Via Bibliocrunch,  Good E-Reader reports that Book Baby will make it possible for self-published authors to distribute their titles to retailers “like Barnes and Noble through their website (with the potential due to sales and customer requests for in-store sales), Amazon, Powells, NASCORP, Ingram Network, Baker & Taylor Network, plus up to another 150 other outlets.”

The best part? One of the chief concerns that prevents bookstores from carrying self-published works is the inability to return unsold titles, even at the author’s cost. BookBaby’s program will allow these outlets–from the local indie bookshop to Barnes and Noble’s physical locations–to return unsold books for a full refund, while still not incurring any cost to the author. BookBaby will absorb the cost of the refund. “This is different from any other Print On Demand program out on the marketplace,” said Steven Spatz, BookBaby President. “Self-published authors deserve to have a place on the book store shelves around the world, and our program delivers the maximum exposure through retail stores and wholesale catalogs.”

I drew this piece based on the Scarlet Witch concept art Marvel released last week. In recent set photos from the upcoming sequel’s shoot, her outfit is slightly different, but I opted to go with the concept art design as I thought the white dress would go well with the rest of the colors in her outfit. I referenced what her stockings and boots looked like in the stock photos but streamlined them. Continue reading “Speed Drawing #3: Scarlet Witch (The Avengers: Age Of Ultron)”

Speed Drawing #2: Rocket Raccoon!

Welcome to the latest installment of The Weibcomics Speed Sketch featuring ROCKET RACCOON from Marvel Comics’ Guardians of the Galaxy! Rocket Raccoon, Guardians of the Galaxy, and all related characters and indicia are property of Marvel Comics and Disney, 2014.

20140305_165923000_iOSI did a few thumbnails to arrive at this pose. The initial inspiration for this pose was a superhero pin-up by Bruce Timm, which I thought would fit Rocket’s posture pretty well. It took some tweaking to settle on his proportions, as I thought I drew his head a bit too small at first and had to resize it. The costume he’s wearing is based on his live-action iteration in the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer. I really like how almost gentle and pup-faced rocket is standing in rest in the trailer, so I wanted his face to have a bit of that quality while still retaining Rocket’s gruff attitude. REMEMBER: Book Reviewers Are on Youtube!

I’ve spent a lot of time researching Book Review sites to reach out to when my graphic novel Intercept Now! is completed. Just recently, I started researching Book Reviewers on Youtube.  Not surprisingly, Youtube has a massive book reviewing community and that’s a great thing for Self-Publishers! I haven’t seen this community reported on very often while reading Self-Publishing news, so I plan to blog more about the many, many Book & Comic Book reviewers who are BookTubing!
